San Antonio Resident Receives Service Award from TWU

DENTON — The School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman's University has honored Martha Tarpley of San Antonio with the Ann Barnett Service Award.

Mrs. Tarpley graduated with honors in 1943 from TWU with a bachelor's degree in library science. She worked as a librarian at Roosevelt Junior High School in Wichita, Kan., and as a librarian for the armed forces in Alabama.

Mrs. Tarpley also has been active in many organizations, including volunteer work within the San Antonio community. She was nominated because of her exemplary service to the community, as one of her nominators stated, “even though she isn't in lead articles about her work, each day of her life she has done something to promote better understanding in human relations.”

The Ann Barnett Service Award recognizes exemplary service to the principles and purposes of librarianship and professional education as demonstrated by sensitivity and responsiveness to people's needs. The award is named for Ann Barnett, a former administrative assistant to the dean of the School of Library and Information Studies.
