TWU Hosts National Gymnastics
Championships
3/12/04
DENTON — The
best USA Gymnastics collegiate athletes converge on Denton April
8-10 to determine who will be a national champion. Texas Woman's
University, in conjunction with the Greater Denton Sports Commission,
is hosting the national USAG championships for the second consecutive
year.
Nearly 5,000 people attended
the national championships last year. TWU officials are planning
for stellar attendance this spring when male and female gymnasts
representing 16 teams from across the country compete in TWU’s
Kitty Magee Arena, located at Bell Avenue and Administration Drive.
"This three-day
event will be a lot of fun and we invite everyone to come be a part
of the excitement," said TWU Athletics Director Chalese Connors.
“The TWU Pioneers have won this event seven times and are
looking forward to not only defending their team title, but claiming
their eighth one at home in Denton."
Tickets are $28 for an
adult event pass and $20 for a student (age 7-17) event pass. Day
passes are $10 for adults and $8 for students. Children age 6 and
younger are admitted free. A $3 service charge will be added to
all credit card purchases.
“The USAG collegiate
championships brought national attention to the Denton community
in 2003 and the Greater Denton Sports Commission and TWU hope to
build on that this year,” said George Young, chairman of the
GDSC. “The championships are a first-class event. It’s
a great opportunity to see top athletes from across the country
competing against each other.”
To purchase tickets by
credit card, call (940) 382-7895 or (888) 381-1818. Tickets can
be purchased in person at the Denton Chamber of Commerce, 414 Parkway,
and in the TWU Athletics Office, located on the second floor of
Pioneer Hall (northeast corner of Bell Avenue and Administration
Drive). Ticket information also is available at www.dentonsports.com/Gymnastics_Info.htm.
