TWU Offers Little Chapel Wedding Package

TWU Student Awarded
Gilman Scholarship
1/09/04
DENTON — Elayne
Edmonson of Dallas recently became the first Texas Woman’s
University student to be awarded a scholarship from the Benjamin
A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. The TWU junior will
use the $5,000 award to study at La Salle University Campus Barcelona
in Spain during the 2004 academic year.
Edmonson originally wanted
to study in Italy, where she has family, but a visit with another
TWU student who is studying in Spain changed all that.
“I just fell in
love with the environment, the culture … everything,”
she said.
Edmonson applied for
an International Education Fee Scholarship, but was ineligible an
award because the La Salle University Campus Barcelona is not a
TWU study abroad partner. She did, however, qualify for the Gilman
scholarship program, which provides funds for undergraduate study
abroad.
Dr. Remigus Ihekwaba,
director of the TWU International Education Office, said Edmonson’s
award demonstrates that money and scholarships are available for
students who investigate and persist.
“All they have
to do is come to the International Education Office or go to our
website,” he said.
Edmonson, whose major
is business with an emphasis in human resources, said she would
like to earn a master of business administration degree and work
in international consulting in the human resources field.
The Gilman International
Scholarship is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Services of the U.S. Department of State, and is administered by
the Institute of International Education.
