Prominent North Texas women to speak at Women in Commerce event Oct. 28

DENTON — Dr. LaSharnda Beckwith, an author and motivational speaker; Dr. Hilda Ruch, an author, family therapist and creative thinking lecturer at the University of Texas at Dallas; and Victoria Snee, a North Texas radio personality, award-winning journalist and beauty expert are the featured speakers for the Women in Commerce Conference at Texas Woman’s University Friday, Oct. 28.

Professional women are encouraged to attend the conference, which is presented by the Denton Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the TWU School of Management, Sally Beauty Supply, LLC and AT&T. The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Hubbard Hall on the TWU Denton campus. For a map of the Denton campus, visit www.twu.edu/maps.asp.

Registration, which includes lunch, is $40 for Denton Chamber members, $50 for non-members, $20 for students and $60 at the door. Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to register early. “Women who attend this conference will be able to connect with other area professional women and hear from successful business leaders who will inspire, motivate and challenge participants to be their best in their careers and lives,” said Dr. Paula Ann Hughes, professor and chair of the TWU School of Management.

Dr. Beckwith has worked for more than 25 years in the government sector and maintains an expertise in leadership, workplace spirituality and personal progression. In 2005, she established the Beckwith Group, a personal and professional development organization. She also is the chief executive officer of Professional Christian Women, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Dr. Beckwith is the author of the self-help book, “When You’re Happy With You.”

Dr. Ruch is the author of “Women Create! A Seriously Whimsical Celebration of the Creative Feminine,” which explores women’s process of constructing and expressing creativity. She has taught and practiced therapy in Dallas for more than 25 years and currently teaches Creative Process at the University of Texas at Dallas. She also maintains an independent counseling practice working with women and couples.

Ms. Snee is an Associated Press award-winning journalist who has covered lifestyle, fashion and entertainment stories in DFW for more than a decade as a reporter on CW33 News at Nine and as a morning disc jockey for Mix 102.9 FM. She is the author of “Beauty Buzz,” a beauty and fashion guide for women.

The Denton Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the TWU School of Management, Sally Beauty Supply and AT&T to launch the Women in Commerce Conference, which is held each year in the fall and the spring to support the professional development of women and to strengthen and enhance the Denton Chamber and community.
