TWU student elected to Denton VFW board of directors


DENTON — Texas Woman’s University student Charles Goolsby is the youngest and first-ever student elected to the board of directors of the Denton Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 2205.

Mr. Goolsby, 30, a junior criminal justice major, also is president of the TWU Student Veterans Association. He served as a field artillery specialist in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army from 2002 to 2005, including in Iraq from 2003 to 2004. He is a native of Alvin and currently resides in Denton.

“I am extremely honored to be the first student and the youngest member of the Denton VFW,” Mr. Goolsby said. “This is an outstanding organization, and I look forward to bringing Denton VFW members and TWU student veterans together to serve to our fellow veterans and the community.”

2011 marks the second consecutive year TWU has been named a “military friendly school” by G.I. Jobs magazine. TWU is among the top 15 percent of universities, colleges and trade schools nationwide to be designated “military friendly.”

At TWU, military- and veteran-focused offerings include:

• Active recruitment of veteran students and the website, which has admissions information specifically for veterans, including checklists; information on veterans’ benefits, financial aid and scholarships; and a list of TWU support services;
• A Veterans Affairs Center on campus to assist with the GI Bill and other veteran education benefits;
