TWU softball field receives national recognition

DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University softball field has received national recognition as the Division II Softball Field of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The award recognizes outstanding grounds maintenance and exceptional playing surfaces.

Stabilizer Solutions, Inc., which sponsors the award, labeled the field a “hidden gem” and pointed to its 2002 recognition as the Softball Field of the Year for College/University by the Sports Turf Managers Association.

TWU supervisor of landscape services Robert Trevino credited the award to the work of grounds crewmembers Becky Chisenhall, Ben Reeves and Marty Looper.

“Kudos for the outstanding work they continue to do and to again being recognized nationally by their peers,” he said.

Award recipients were recognized Dec. 1 during the NFCA National Convention in Las Vegas. Richie Bruister, TWU head softball coach, accepted the award.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. Stabilizer Solutions, Inc. is the “Official Playing Surface” of the NFCA. For more information about the award, visit
