TWU's Houston Center presents 16th annual Parry Distinguished Lectureship


HOUSTON — Evidence based nursing practice for quality care is the focus as Texas Woman’s University presents the Parry Distinguished Lectureship on Friday, March 4 at TWU’s Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center.

The presentation, titled “Evidence for Best Nursing Practice,” is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon in the Houston Endowment Auditorium located at TWU’s Houston Center, 6700 Fannin St. in the Texas Medical Center. The 16th annual Parry Distinguished Lectureship is a collaborative endeavor of the Parry Endowment, TWU Houston’s Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International, Beta Beta Houston.

TWU has applied for CNE Type 1 contact hours from the Texas Nursing Association (TNA) for the event. The TNA is an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

The featured speaker for the event is TWU distinguished alumna Dr. Suzanne S. Prevost, Ph.D., RN. Dr. Prevost is the associate dean for practice & engagement at the University of Kentucky, president-elect of Sigma Theta Tau International and Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow. Dr. Prevost will present how evidence-based practice involves the integration of research, clinical expertise and patient preferences to provide care that is driven by science and patient needs and values. Sources of evidence will be discussed, as well as methods for evaluating the quality and strength of evidence.

A Call for Research Poster Abstracts also has been issued. Those interested in submitting an abstract for the Research Poster Presentation should contact Dr. Ann Malecha at Abstracts due by Monday, Feb. 21.
