TWU to conduct winter commencement December 17-19


DENTON/DALLAS/HOUSTON — The fall 2010 semester at Texas Woman’s University will draw to a close with commencement ceremonies scheduled Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17 and 18 on TWU’s Denton campus, and Sunday, Dec. 19 in Houston.

The Denton ceremony includes candidates from TWU’s Dallas Center. Approximately 953 degrees will be awarded during the Denton ceremonies. The total number of degrees to be awarded, including the Houston ceremony, is approximately 1,187.

Students and family members who have tickets are invited to attend. The Denton ceremonies, which include graduates from the Denton and Dallas campuses, will take place in the Kitty Magee Arena in Pioneer Hall, located on Bell Avenue. Receptions hosted by TWU Chancellor Dr. Ann Stuart will follow each ceremony on the second floor of the Student Union, located on the southwest corner of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive.

Ceremony I, scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, is for candidates in the College of Arts and Sciences, not including the School of Management. David Martino, a Denton entrepreneur, will deliver the commencement address. Ceremony II will begin at 2 p.m. and will include candidates from the College of Nursing and the School of Management. Miriam Sibley, chief nursing officer for the Parkland Health & Hospital System of Dallas and a TWU alumna, will speak.

Ceremony III will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, with Dr. Billie Askew, TWU alumna and Cornaro Professor Emerita of Reading addressing the graduates. Candidates from the College of Professional Education, not including the School of Library and Information Studies, will participate in Ceremony III. Ceremony IV, scheduled at 2 p.m., will include candidates from the College of Health Sciences and the School of Library and Information Studies. Francis Radford Ray, an author, school nurse practitioner in the Dallas Independent School District and TWU alumna, will address the graduates.

TWU’s Houston ceremony, scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, will take place in the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas. Carol Oddo, vice president/associate administrator for the Harris County Hospital District’s Ancillary and Support Services, will deliver the commencement address.
