Michael
J. Stankey appointed as new TWU associate provost
4/28/09
Texas Woman’s
University announces that Dr. Michael J. Stankey has been
appointed as the new associate provost for the university.
“I was really
struck by the genuine commitment to student excellence expressed
by so many of the faculty and staff that I met at TWU,”
Dr. Stankey said. “I am excited to jump into the rich
tradition of this university.”
As part of his
duties, Dr. Stankey will oversee the TWU Dallas and Houston
campuses, the TWU Institutional Effectiveness and Research
department, Academic Outreach and the web management team.
He also will be involved in TWU’s Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS) re-accreditation, data analysis,
policy review and faculty development.
“Dr. Stankey’s
expertise will serve him well in his leadership role at TWU,
particularly in his involvement in TWU’s SACS reaffirmation,”
TWU Provost Dr. Kay Clayton said.
Dr. Stankey has
spent the last 14 years in various leadership roles at the
University of Evansville in Indiana, including the director
of the Center for Teaching Excellence at the university and
chair of the department of communication. Prior to his service
at the University of Evansville, Dr. Stankey was a professor
of advertising for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
He earned his Ph.D.
and master’s degree from the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign and his bachelor’s degree from Purdue
University.
Dr. Stankey, who
begins work at TWU June 1, replaces former TWU associate provost
Dr. Victoria McGillin, who is now vice president of academic
affairs and dean of faculty at Linfield College in Oregon.
