TWU to host eighth annual Well Wednesday Community Health Fair on April 1
DENTON — Here’s to your health! Texas Woman’s University will host its eighth annual Well Wednesday Community Health Fair on April 1. The event is sponsored by TWU Student Health Services. Door prizes to be awarded include a mountain bike, digital camera, 19-inch TV with DVD player, GPS navigation system, mini laptop and more.
Admission to the event is free and open to the public. The health fair is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in Pioneer Hall, located on Bell Avenue. Free parking is available at Pioneer Hall, in visitor parking and in the library parking lot. For a map of the campus, visit www.twu.edu/maps.asp. “The health fair will combine health and wellness information with interactive activities,” Ms. Lalwani said. “We hope that this health fair will help our students and community members identify valuable resources and services available to them and motivate them to adopt personal health and wellness behaviors.”
More than 30 vendors will participate in the TWU Well Wednesday Community Health Fair, including Denton County Health Department, Day Stay for Adults, Friends of the Family, Family Resource Center of North Texas, TWU Counseling and Family Development, TWU Fitness and Recreation, Denton Regional Medical Center and more.
Many of the services are provided free of charge, including blood pressure checks, confidential HIV screening, spinal and foot evaluations (from 12-2 p.m. only) and neck and back massages.
Blood profiles and lipid panels will be available at a reduced cost. Female profiles, which include a complete metabolic panel, a complete blood count, lipid and thyroid panel and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), and male profiles, which include a complete metabolic panel, CBC, lipid panel and PSA (prostate specific antigen) are $65 each. Lipid panels (which include triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL and HDL) are available for $35. Payment by cash, check or credit card will be accepted.
