Texas College and Career Readiness regional meeting set Nov. 2
DENTON — Texas Woman’s University, in partnership with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA), will host a Texas College and Career Readiness Regional Round-up on Monday, Nov. 2.
The meeting will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Embassy Suites DFW, 2401 Bass Pro Drive in Grapevine. The meeting is free and open to the public, but space is limited and advanced registration is required. To register, go to www.twu.edu/ce. For more information about the event, contact Dr. Barbara Lerner, TWU director of academic outreach, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (940) 898-2739.
Topics to be presented at this meeting include an update on House Bill 3, with specific attention to the new accountability measures related to college readiness.
Texas is among the first states in the country to begin implementation of statewide standards, an initiative mandated by the 79th Texas Legislature. The Texas College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) dramatically increase the levels of expectation and achievement of students in the critical areas of English/language arts, social studies/sciences/mathematics and science. Once fully implemented, the CCRS will pave the way to better alignment between the public and higher education curricula, thereby allowing students a more seamless transition from high school to college.
The standards are available for download at www.thecb.state.tx.us/collegereadiness/TCRS.cfm.
