TWU’s Benavides chosen as THEHRA president-elect
2/17/09

AUSTIN — Lewis Benavides, associate vice president of
human resources for Texas Woman’s University, recently
was voted president-elect for the Texas Higher Education Human
Resources Association (THEHRA).
More than 500 human
resources professionals from 34 colleges and universities
across the state are members of the THEHRA. The association’s
mission is to contribute to the professional advancement of
human resources administration in state-supported senior colleges
and universities in Texas.
Mr. Benavides will
become the president of the organization in 2010.
“I look forward
to working with the association and its members to enhance
the field of human resources in higher education,” he
said. “With the potential for tightening university
budgets statewide, it will be more important than ever for
Texas public universities to maximize their largest asset
— human resources.”
Mr. Benavides,
who joined TWU in 2002, has more than 20 years of human resource
management experience. He has served two terms as president
of the North Texas Society for Human Resources Management
and was appointed by the Dallas City Council to five consecutive
terms on its Civil Service Commission. In 2005, Gov. Perry
appointed him as a commissioner with the Texas Department
of Licensing and Regulation.
Mr. Benavides is
a graduate of San Antonio College and Southwest Texas State
University.
