TWU’s DiMarco honored for achievement — 1/20/09

DENTON —
Dr. Nancy DiMarco,
professor of nutrition and food sciences at Texas Woman’s
University, was selected as co-recipient of the 2009 SCAN
Achievement Award. The award is the highest honor presented
by SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists),
a dietetic practice group of the American Dietetic Association
(ADA).
Established in 1985, the SCAN Achievement Award recognizes practitioners who have played significant roles in the evolution of SCAN and professional accomplishments in the field. Dr. DiMarco’s contributions to the field of sports nutrition, cardiovascular wellness and the prevention of disordered eating were cited as factors in the award selection.
Dr. DiMarco, who also serves as director of the TWU Institute for Women’s Health, helped create the master’s program in exercise and sports nutrition at TWU. She began the ADA’s certification for registered dieticians as certified specialists in sports dietetics (CCSD), and also created a SCAN subunit called Sports Dietetics-USA.
