Retired TWU professor John J. Miniter establishes scholarship
for students
3/27/08
DENTON –
As a professor at Texas Woman’s University for 20 years,
John J. Miniter, Ph.D., has always recognized the value of
a TWU education. With that in mind and to honor his wife of
58 years, Dr. Miniter has donated $10,000 to the TWU Foundation
to establish the Helen B. Miniter Scholarship.
“My wife
attended TWU, and we wanted to give back to a university that
we appreciate so much,” Dr. Miniter said.
The first Helen
B. Miniter Scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic
school year. Preference in awarding the endowed scholarship
will be for an undergraduate student in financial need who
is a Native American or African American.
Dr. Miniter joined
the TWU School of Library and Information Studies in 1964
and retired from the university in 1984. Prior to his teaching
at TWU, he was a librarian in the North Texas area for several
years and also served as a technical librarian for the U.S.
Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory in New London, Conn. Dr.
Miniter and Mrs. Miniter have lived in Denton for more than
35 years.
