DALLAS/DENTON — Karen Kernodle Martin of Irving has been named director of development at Texas Woman’s University. In addition to other development duties, she will co-chair the fundraising campaign for the new TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center and organize the university’s Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award Luncheon.

“I am both honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to serve TWU,” Ms. Martin, CFRE, said. “I look forward to assisting TWU in raising funds for its new Dallas building and for scholarships, so the university can continue to graduate students who meet the needs of the citizens of Texas.”

TWU has raised to date more than $48 million toward its $55 million goal for construction of the new Dallas Institute. The annual Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award Luncheon raises funds for scholarships for outstanding TWU graduate students. The 2009 luncheon honoring Caroline Rose Hunt will take place Feb. 26, 2009 at the Belo Mansion and Pavilion.

Ms. Martin previously was the executive director of development for Baylor University’s College of Arts and Sciences and the university’s Honors College. She also has held development leadership positions at the Baylor Medical Center at Irving, the Irving Schools Foundation, the North Hills Preparatory School and the Delta Delta Delta Foundation.

She serves as the board development chair of the Texas PTA, public relations chair-elect for the Greater Dallas Chapter Association of Fundraising Professionals and is a member of the Baylor University Women’s Council of Dallas and the Council for Advancement and Support Of Education (CASE.) She received her bachelor’s degree and MBA from Baylor University.
