TWU to host seventh annual Well Wednesday Community Health Fair on April 2


DENTON — Here’s to your health!  Texas Woman’s University will host its seventh annual Well Wednesday Community Health Fair on April 2.  The event is sponsored by TWU Student Health Services and Texas Oncology.  Door prizes, including two mountain bikes and two IPods, will be awarded.

Admission to the event is free and open to the public.  The health fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Pioneer Hall, located on Bell Avenue.  Free parking is available at Pioneer Hall, in visitor parking and in the library parking lot.  For a map of the campus, visit www.twu.edu/maps.asp.  For more information about the health fair, contact TWU health educator Priyanka Lalwani at (940) 898-3833 or email healtheducation@twu.edu.

“The health fair will combine health and wellness information with interactive activities,” Ms. Lalwani said.  “Our goal is to motivate people to adopt and maintain personal health and wellness behaviors.”

More than 35 vendors will participate in the TWU Well Wednesday Community Health Fair, including Denton County Health Department; Day Stay for Adults; Friends of the Family; Family Resource Center of North Texas; TWU Counseling and Family Development; TWU Fitness and Recreation; Denton Regional Medical Center and more.

Many of the services are provided free of charge, including blood pressure checks, spinal and posture checks, and free neck and back massages

Blood profiles and lipid panels will be available at a reduced cost.  Female profiles (which include a complete metabolic panel, a complete blood count, lipid and thyroid panel and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and male profiles (which include a complete metabolic panel, CBC, lipid panel and PSA (prostate specific antigen) are $58 each.  Lipid panels (which include triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL and HDL) are available for $32.  Payment by cash, check or credit card will be accepted.  Fasting for eight to 10 hours prior to the screening is recommended.  To schedule an appointment for these screenings, call (800) 685-5572.

Methodist Mobile Mammography will offer screenings for women ages 35 and older with no breast implants and no current breast problems.  Most major insurance plans may be filed, including Medicare and Medicaid.  For those without insurance, the payment of $111.65 is due at the time of service.  To schedule an appointment, call (800) 727-6131.
