TWU’s
Barnes receives Distinguished Achievement Award from CASE
District IV
4/22/08
DENTON — Carolyn Barnes, associate vice president for
marketing and communication for Texas Woman’s University,
received the 2008 Distinguished Achievement Award from the
Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District
IV during the district’s annual conference held April
5-9 in Little Rock, Ark.
The award is the
highest honor given by CASE District IV to advancement professionals.
Ms. Barnes received the award for her leadership and service
to the profession, TWU and to CASE.
“CASE has
been my best professional resource throughout my career,”
Ms. Barnes said. “It has been a privilege to give back
to an organization that has given me so much.”
Ms. Barnes served
on the CASE International Commission on Communications and
Marketing and three terms on the CASE IV Board of Directors.
She also has held more than a dozen volunteer positions in
the district, including chair of the 2001 district conference.
T. Cay Rowe, assistant
vice president for university advancement at Texas State University,
chaired the selection committee that chose Ms. Barnes for
the award.
“Carolyn is an obvious choice for this award,”
Ms. Rowe said. “For many years, she has shared her professional
talents with TWU and North Texas, as well as with CASE at
so many levels. She fills in wherever there is a need —
with programming, advising, leadership, mentoring and organizing.
CASE is a better organization because she is a member.”
Following a notable
career in journalism, Ms. Barnes entered the higher education
communications field in 1980 and has worked in almost every
facet of the profession: media relations, public relations,
publications, periodicals, special events and marketing. She
has been associate vice president for marketing and communication
at TWU since 2000. Previously, she was director of marketing
at the university, where she has worked since 1992. She has
received 14 national and regional awards for writing, public
relations projects, magazines, periodicals and special events.
A lifelong resident
of Denton, Ms. Barnes holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism
from the University of North Texas.
CASE is an international
professional organization for advancement professionals working
in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing
and related services. CASE's membership includes nearly 3,400
colleges, universities, independent elementary and secondary
schools, and educational associates in 60 countries around
the world. CASE District IV represents higher education institutions
