TWU names Anne Scott new director of Alumni Relations

DENTON – Creating a brand that will engage alumni of all ages in the life of the university is the priority of new Texas Woman’s University Director of Alumni Relations Anne Scott.

“TWU is a remarkable institution with a great story to tell,” Ms. Scott said. “I look forward to working with alumni, faculty and staff to usher in a new era of alumni relations.”

According to Dr. Richard Nicholas, TWU vice president for student life, the university created the director of alumni relations position as a result of the recommendations from the TWU Alumni Task Force, convened by the TWU Board of Regents in fall 2006.

“Ms. Scott is the ideal person to help us better involve our alumni in all facets of the university as we grow and move forward,” Dr. Nicholas said.

“TWU’s tradition of educating non-traditional students creates alumni who also are not typical,” Ms. Scott said. “These alumni associate more with their programs of study, as opposed to their graduating class. I hope to offer opportunities to capitalize on that association in order to connect more of these former students to the university.”

More program-associated events and networking opportunities are some of the ways Ms. Scott says she hopes to improve alumni relations with younger graduates. She also is updating the alumni database and creating new electronic communications, which include a redesigned website and an e-newsletter, to better communicate with alumni. Supporting the efforts of the alumni-led TWU Former Students Association also is one of her top goals.

“The TWU FSA wishes to welcome Anne Scott to the campus,” said Barbara Taylor, president of the TWU FSA. “We look forward to becoming better acquainted and mutually working to increase our membership and thus increase alumni support of TWU.”

Prior to joining TWU, Ms. Scott served as the program director for the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association for the past nine years. During her tenure at OSU, she supervised the association’s student programs including the Student Alumni Board/Ambassadors and the Homecoming Steering Committee, and was responsible for several awards and recognition programs including the Distinguished Alumni Recognition, the Alumni Hall of Fame and the outstanding seniors recognition. She also helped to create Grandparent University, an intergenerational learning experience.

“Through my work at OSU, I have gained extensive knowledge of alumni relations work and the importance of that work to the well-being and future of a university,” Ms. Scott said.

Ms. Scott received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from OSU. She is married to Charlie Scott and they have two grown sons and two grandchildren. Ms. Scott is the daughter of Mabel and the late Frank Eby of Perry, Okla.
