TWU presents ‘Old Wine in New Bottles’
2/29/08
DENTON —The Texas Woman’s University Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Wind Ensemble will join forces for a music showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6 in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located at Oakland Avenue and Pioneer Circle on TWU’s Denton campus. Cost is $5 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door or may be reserved by calling (940) 898-2500.
Titled “Old Wine in New Bottles,” the performance features older music composed or arranged in a more modern format. The TWU Wind Ensemble will perform the title piece as well as its sequel, “More Old Wine in New Bottles,” both by Gordon Jacob.
The TWU Concert Choir will perform two 20th century settings of ancient texts — an “Alleluia” and an “Ave Maria.” The choir also will perform two pieces written by Mulholland to 17th century texts, and an African-American spiritual arranged in a gospel style by Moses Hogan.
The TWU Chamber Singers will perform two modern arrangements of folk hymns — one by Parker and the other by Wilberg — and two folk-based Hebrew pieces.
