Former Texas Education Commissioner Neeley to speak
as TWU hosts Administrators’ Back-to-School Day Feb. 15

DENTON — Former Texas Commissioner of Education Dr. Shirley J. Neeley will be the keynote speaker as Texas Woman’s University hosts its second annual Administrators’ Back-to-School Day on Friday, Feb. 15.
The workshop will take place in the Administration Conference Tower (ACT) Building, located on Administration Drive on TWU’s Denton campus. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. in the second-floor lobby area. Registration costs through Friday, Jan. 25 are $89 for school administrators and $19 for university students. Regular registration is $109 for school administrators and $29 for university students, and on-site registration is $129 for school administrators. Costs include a CEU (continuing education credit) certificate, continental breakfast, lunch and networking opportunities.

Dr. Neeley served as the Texas commissioner of education from 2004 to 2007. As commissioner, Dr. Neeley was head of the Texas Education Agency, which oversees 1,037 school districts and approximately 200 charter schools.
A former elementary school teacher, assistant principal and principal, Dr. Neeley served as superintendent of Galena Park Independent School District, Texas’ largest exemplary district, until her appointment as commissioner of education.
Dr. Neeley formerly served as president of the Texas Association of Suburban and Mid-Urban Schools. She also served on the boards of the Harris County Youth Program and the Texas Academic Decathlon.
Gov. Rick Perry appointed her to the Southern Regional Education Board in the summer of 2003. Later that year, the Texas Association of School Boards named Dr. Neeley its Superintendent of the Year.
