TWU School of Library and Information Studies plans TLA conference events

4/10/07

DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) and the American Library Association will co-sponsor “Creating Advocacy Leaders: An Advocacy Institute Program” during the 2007 Texas Library Association Annual Conference this week in San Antonio.

The program will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 12 at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio. The program will focus on the need to create advocacy leaders to advance the library message and organize library supporters at the grassroots level. Carol Brey-Casiano, director of the El Paso Public Library and a past president of the ALA, is the keynote speaker.

TWU SLIS also will host a Spring Mini-Forum from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Hyatt Regency. There is no cost to attend. Mini-Forum sessions include a panel of current TWU SLIS students, an opportunity for students to ask faculty members about the program, an alumni session with Dr. Ling Hwey Jen, SLIS director, and a workshop titled, “MySpaces@Your Library: Blogs and Wikis and RSS, Oh My!”
