faculty and students for National Nursing Week May 6 - 12

Woman’s University’s Institute of Health Sciences-Houston
Center salutes its outstanding nursing faculty and students
for National Nursing Week May 6 – 12. TWU-Houston boasts
many outstanding nursing faculty and students, and the following
individual’s accomplishments deserve special publication
consideration:
STUDENTS
• Mr. Chimezie Iwuanyanwu, junior nursing major. was
one of only two nursing students in the United States to be
awarded the 2006 Excellence in Academics Nursing Scholarship.
The scholarship, presented by the American Association of
Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and Lydia’s professional
Uniforms, provides $5,000 in competitive scholarship monies
to students in the junior year of a baccalaureate nursing
program.
• Ms. Carol Wiggs, M.S., R.N., C.N.M., a doctoral student
in nursing, completed a quilt that was accepted by the American
Journal of Nursing for the “Art in Nursing” segment
of the American Journal of Nursing’s January 2007 issue.
The quilt was part of an assignment for her TWU Anthropology
and Women’s Health course.
• Ms. Seema Aggarwal, senior, nursing major. Ms. Aggarwal
has been selected to receive a “Salute to Nurses”
award from The Houston Chronicle during Nurses Week May 11.
FACULTY
• Dr. Sandra Cesario, Ph.D., RNC, associate professor
and coordinator of the PhD. program in Houston. Dr. Cesario
received the 2007 Innovation in Teaching Award from the Texas
Organization of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Education.
• Dr. Jan Foster, Ph.D., RN, assistant professor, has
been named a Consulting Editor for Critical Care Nursing Clinics
of North America through 2011.
• Mr. Faisal H. Aboul-Enein, B.S.N., M.S.N., clinical
assistant professor. Mr. Aboul-Enein serves as part of the
editorial board of the following international journals found
on Medwell: “Pakistan Journal of Social Sciences,”
“The Social Sciences,” and “The Cardiology.”
He also has published & co-authored a paper entitled,
“Colombia: the widening gap between health care reform
and gastric cancer” in the “Journal of Public
Health," this work was an international collaboration
with Dr. Diana Caceras of the National Cancer Institute in
Colombia and Texas Woman's University. Also, he recently was
selected to be a member of the National Health Service Corps
(NHSC) Ambassador Program. As an ambassadors. Mr. Aboul-Enein
will work in partnership with the NHSC to improve the health
of the country’s underserved.
• Mr. Faisal H. Aboul-Enein, B.S.N., M.S.N., clinical
assistant professor and Dr. Margaret C., Hawkins, Ph.D., R.N.,
associate professor Mr. Aboul-Enein and Dr. Hawkins were recognized
as one of the 20 Outstanding Nurses for 2006 by the Houston
Texas Nurses Association District 9.
• Dr. Ann Malecha, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor.
Dr. Malecha will receive the Distinction in Scholarship Award
during TWU’s 2007 Convocation ceremony in Denton April
19. The award is presented to a TWU faculty member who has
evidenced a distinguished record of scholarship and dedication
to improving knowledge and understanding in their discipline.
• Dr. Ruth Grubesic, Dr.PH., R.N., assistant professor.
Dr. Grubesic was named the 2007 recipient of the TWU Marilyn
Bagwell Faculty Development Award.
