TWU's sixth consecutive year of enrollment growth sees record 12,000 students
DENTON — Enrollment at Texas Woman’s University has climbed above 12,000 for the first time in university history, with a record 12,183 students enrolled for fall 2007.
“This milestone in TWU’s history could not have been achieved without the diligent efforts of faculty and staff as they implement the university’s strategic enrollment plan,” said TWU Chancellor and President Dr. Ann Stuart. “This is no small accomplishment, and I congratulate all those whose hard work contributed to setting this record.”
The previous enrollment record of 11,832 students was set in fall 2006. The 3 percent increase for fall 2007 continues six consecutive years of enrollment growth. Most importantly, TWU’s total semester credit hours grew 4.3 percent to 120,707 hours, up from 115,701 last fall — also a record. Student credit hours, not headcount, determine the university’s state total funding.
All numbers are based on 12th class day preliminary enrollment data.
Preliminary numbers place TWU’s Hispanic enrollment at 1,731 students, an increase of nearly 2 percent from fall 2006. TWU’s Hispanic enrollment increased 79.9 percent from 2001 to 2006, the fourth-highest among public universities in Texas.
From 2002 to 2006, TWU’s overall enrollment grew 31.9 percent, the fourth-highest enrollment growth percentage among universities in Texas.
Chancellor Stuart declared enrollment as her highest priority upon arriving at TWU in 1999. Expanded programs, admissions outreach efforts, improved processing of applications, enhanced marketing efforts and closer ties with high schools and community colleges are elements of the strategic enrollment plan led by Dr. Stuart.
Enrollment is 10,008 students on the Denton campus; 1,247 at the TWU Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center; and 911 at the Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center.
Twelfth-day preliminary enrollment data is issued by TWU’s Office of Institutional Research. Official enrollment figures will be available in December after approval by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
