6/19/07

DENTON —
Dr. Nancy DiMarco, professor of nutrition and food sciences
at Texas Woman’s University, recently was named the
2007 Distinguished Scientist by the Texas Dietetic Association
(TDA).
According to the
TDA, the award is given to a TDA member who has made outstanding
and significant contributions to research in the field of
dietetics, nutrition, food science or related sciences.
“Being recognized
by your peers is wonderful, but truly I could not have received
this award without the support of my husband, children, students,
colleagues and staff because they made it possible,”
Dr. DiMarco said.
Dr. DiMarco, who
also serves as the director of TWU’s Institute for Women’s
Health, performs research in the areas of osteoporosis and
the effects of diet, exercise and hormonal status on bone
metabolism throughout the lifecycle, and the impact of nutrition
education on elementary school children’s food selections
and bone mineral density. She is a member of the American
Society for Bone & Mineral Research, American Society
of Nutritional Sciences, American College of Sports Medicine,
American Dietetic Association (ADA), Dietitians in Research,
Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists, North Texas Dietetic
