TWU to conduct
spring commencement on May 12

DENTON —
The spring 2007 semester at Texas Woman’s University
will draw to a close Saturday, May 12, with commencement ceremonies
scheduled for 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. on TWU’s Denton
campus.
Students and family
members who have tickets are invited to attend. The ceremonies,
which include graduates from the Denton and Dallas campuses,
will take place in the Kitty Magee Arena in Pioneer Hall,
located on Bell Avenue.
Ms. Kathleen Mason,
president and CEO of Tuesday Morning Corp. will deliver the
commencement address for the morning ceremony. Dr. Rosemary
Luquire, a TWU graduate and senior vice president and corporate
chief nursing officer of the Baylor Health Care System, will
speak during the noon ceremony. Dr. Liliana Valadez, assistant
superintendent for college readiness for the Dallas Independent
School District, will address graduates during the 3 p.m.
ceremony.
TWU Chancellor
and President Dr. Ann Stuart will preside at each ceremony.
Approximately 717
undergraduate and 496 graduate degrees will be awarded during
the ceremonies.
Times for commencement
reflect candidate assignments based on specific schools and
colleges participating in the ceremonies listed below. Receptions
for each ceremony will follow on the second floor of the Student
Union, located on the southwest corner of Bell Avenue and
Administration Drive.
• 9 a.m.
— Ceremony I for candidates of the College of Arts and
Sciences. A reception will follow from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
• Noon — Ceremony II for candidates of the College
of Health Sciences and the College of Nursing. A reception
will follow from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
• 3 p.m. — Ceremony III for candidates of the
College of Professional Education and the School of the Arts.
A reception will follow from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Ms. Mason is a
retail executive with more than 25 years of successful merchandising,
marketing and management experience in department, chain and
specialty stores. She currently is president and CEO of Tuesday
Morning Corporation, North America’s largest operator
of discount and closeout home furnishings and gift stores.
She also serves on the board of directors of the Dallas Chamber
of Commerce; Genesco Incorporated, manufacturer of Johnson
and Murphy and Dockers shoes; The Men’s Wearhouse; and
Office Depot.
Dr. Luquire joined
the Baylor Health Care System in January of this year. She
previously served as senior vice president, chief nursing
officer and chief quality officer of St. Luke’s Episcopal
Health System in Houston. Dr. Luquire, who earned her Ph.D.
from TWU, is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing;
a commissioner for the Magnet Commission in Washington, D.C.;
and a member of the American Nurses Association, American
Assocition of Critical-Care Nurses and the national and local
chapters of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Dr. Valadez, who
earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from
TWU, is a third-generation Texas educator. She has served
districts in the lower Rio Grande Valley, and has been a teacher,
an assistant principal, and has served in various capacities
at the central administration level in the Dallas Independent
School District. She has worked with the Teach for America
program and has served as an adjunct professor at the junior
college and university levels. At the state level, Dr. Valadez
serves as co-chair of the P-16 Council’s Student Academic
Preparation and Readiness Committee.
