TWU tree planting
to honor Dr. Sterling Smith
11/06/06
DENTON —
A large red oak tree will be planted on TWU’s Denton
campus in memory of biology professor Dr. Sterling Smith,
who died Aug. 19, 2006, in a mountain-climbing accident in
Colorado.
The ceremony will
take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, between the Science
Building and the Margo Jones Performance Hall. The public
is invited to attend. For a map of the Denton campus, visit
www.twu.edu/maps.asp.
Funds for the purchase
of the tree were raised by the TWU Faculty Senate, which sought
donations from current and former senators. The senators raised
more than the $200 required to purchase the tree and gave
the additional donations to the biology department’s
scholarship fund established in Dr. Smith’s name.
