TWU’s Alexandria’s
Ragtime Band alumni return for 25th anniversary concert
2/24/06
DENTON —
The music of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and more will
fill the air at Texas Woman’s University as Alexandria’s
Ragtime Band celebrates its 25th anniversary with a concert
Saturday, March 4. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the Margo Jones Auditorium,
located at Oakland and Sawyer streets on TWU’s Denton
campus. For more information, call (940) 898-2500.
The concert will
feature many Alexandria’s alumni performing with the
current band. Recent TWU graduate Russ Brown, director of
Cisco High School’s award-winning Mighty Lobo Band,
will bring the 40-plus members of his band to join Alexandria’s
in a rousing rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching
In.”
Alexandria’s
Ragtime Band, a performing organization of the TWU School
of the Arts, was founded by and is under the direction of
Dr. John Flohr, professor of music education at TWU. The band
specializes in the ragtime and Dixieland idioms of the late
19th and early 20th century American jazz music.
