BACKGROUND:
Continuing a 45-year
history in the Texas Medical Center, TWU welcomed students
to the new TWU Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center
in August. The new 10-story, 202,000-square-foot “campus
in one building” was designed by Kirksey Architects
and built by Vaughn Construction, both of Houston.
With the largest
College of Nursing in Texas and its nationally ranked programs
in occupational and physical therapy, TWU has a national reputation
for excellence in healthcare education. TWU graduates more
healthcare professionals than any other higher education institution
in Texas.
From fall 1999
to fall 2004, TWU-Houston’s enrollment increased more
than 50 percent, straining the existing facilities. This new
facility allows TWU to dramatically increase enrollment and
continue to provide Texas with highly qualified nurses and
healthcare professionals for years to come.
Currently, more
than 1,300 students majoring in nursing, physical therapy,
library science, business administration, healthcare administration,
occupational therapy and nutrition are enrolled at the TWU
Houston Center. For more information, visit www.twu.edu/houston.
