TWU schedules
winter commencement in Houston

HOUSTON —
The fall 2006 semester at the Texas Woman’s University
Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center will draw to a
close Sunday, Dec. 17, with commencement ceremonies scheduled
for 2 p.m. in the Edwin Hornberger Conference Center, 2151
West Holcombe Blvd.
Students and family
members who have tickets are invited to attend. Approximately
200 degrees will be conferred during the Houston commencement.
TWU’s Denton ceremonies, which include graduates from
the Denton and Dallas campuses, will take place Saturday,
Dec. 16. TWU Chancellor and President Dr. Ann Stuart will
preside at each ceremony.
Dr. Therese Bevers,
medical director of clinical cancer prevention for the M.D.
Anderson Cancer Prevention Center, will deliver the commencement
address for the Houston ceremony. Dr. Bevers, a graduate of
TWU, also serves as chair of the university’s board
of regents.
Dr. Bevers has
led the M.D. Anderson Cancer Prevention Center since its inception
in 1996 as the first comprehensive clinical cancer prevention
service program in the country. She served as M.D. Anderson’s
principal investigator for the nationwide Study of Tamoxifen
and Raloxifene (“STAR”), one of the largest breast
cancer studies ever conducted. She recently was named national
protocol chair for the upcoming Study to Evaluate Letrozole
and Raloxifene, or “STELLAR.”
Dr. Bevers has
been named among the Notable Women of Texas and is listed
in “America’s Top Family Doctors.” She also
was recognized in “Who’s Who in Healthcare and
Medicine.”
