TWU to recognize staff at Honors Convocation
4/14/06
DENTON
— Three Texas Woman’s University staff members
will be honored for their contributions to the university
during Honors Convocation ceremonies Thursday, April 20. Convocation
begins at 10 a.m. in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located
at Oakland and Sawyer streets on TWU’s Denton campus.
Eugene
Duperry, maintenance worker leader for Facilities
Management and Construction on TWU’s Parkland campus,
will receive the TWU Excellence Award. Maybelle Demore,
purchasing supervisor, and Shelly Key, coordinator
of freshman recruitment for the Office of Admissions, will
receive Outstanding Staff Achievement awards.
The
TWU Award of Excellence is presented to a full-time employee
who has a minimum of five years continuous service with TWU.
The employee should display outstanding personality traits
such as loyalty, dedication, initiative and reliability, and
should demonstrate the ability to relate well to all members
of the university community. Recipients of the Outstanding
Achievement Awards must be full-time TWU employees who have
a minimum of two years of continuous service to the university
and who exhibit superior job performance and a high degree
of proficiency in their position.
Mr.
Duperry is known as a team player who always has a happy attitude
and is willing to help with whatever is needed by faculty,
staff and students. “Gene is always available and willing
to do extra things for faculty — things that may not
be directly related to his job description, but which need
to be done in our department,” one nominator said. Another
noted that “Many students know they can ask him to help
with just about everything. He volunteers to assist students
and faculty in activities outside of academics, such as TNSA
(Texas Nursing Students Association) meetings.”
Ms.
Demore often is the first person called when TWU personnel
have questions about purchasing resources for the university.
As one nominator wrote, “‘Ask Maybelle’
is often the answer to the question, ‘How do we get
what we need?’ her generosity of spirit, unflappable
demeanor and uncompromising integrity in these matters is
legendary.” Others described her as “a human encyclopedia
of knowledge” who “always goes the extra mile
to make sure that every bid or requisition is well within
the state guidelines. Without Maybelle, this university would
not run as efficiently as it does in the financial area.”
Ms.
Key has been an integral part of the TWU Admissions team and
has directly contributed to the increase in enrollment over
the last few years. She manages the university’s Dual
Enrollment and High School Advantage programs, both of which
have grown substantially during her tenure. “Her dedication,
diligence, knowledge base and attitude are nothing short of
astounding,” one nominator wrote. “Despite her
considerable workload, she is always quick to help her colleagues
and any student — prospective or otherwise — in
need of assistance.” Others described Ms. Key as “a
wonderful resource” and “a mentor and an excellent
role model for all who come in contact with her.”
