DENTON — Texas Woman’s University Student Health Services is supporting National Cholesterol Education Month with Heart Healthy Week, scheduled Sept. 23-26. Dubbed “Cho-less-terol Days,” the event will feature information as well as cholesterol testing.

Dr. Geetha Ramaswamy will be the guest speaker for a free breakfast talk on cholesterol and its effect on the heart at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25. The talk will take place in room 207 of the Student Union, located on the southwest corner of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive on TWU’s Denton campus. A heart-healthy breakfast will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call (940) 898-3833.

Dr. Ramaswamy completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, as well as a cardiology fellowship at the at the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She then spent one year of advanced training at the Yale University School of Medicine, where she specialized in advanced nuclear cardiology techniques and echocardiography. Her research interests include the echocardiographic assessment of patients with congestive heart failure, the use of nuclear cardiology techniques to evaluate myocardial metabolism, and the evaluation of diabetic patients with heart disease.

Cholesterol testing will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in room 207 of the Student Union. The testing, presented by Onsite Health Diagnostics, will cost $14 for a lipid panel — which includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides — or $85 for a VAP test, which includes the preceding as well as various cholesterol subclasses. An eight-hour fast is required prior to either test.

To schedule an appointment for cholesterol testing, call toll-free (877) 366-7483 or visit www.onsitehd.com/JCPlinks.

Parking for both events will be available in the visitor parking lot, located north of the Student Union. Parking permits are available at the Information Booth on Administration Drive.
