DENTON — Texas Woman’s University Student Health
Services is supporting National Cholesterol Education Month
with Heart Healthy Week, scheduled Sept. 23-26. Dubbed “Cho-less-terol
Days,” the event will feature information as well as
cholesterol testing.
Dr. Geetha Ramaswamy
will be the guest speaker for a free breakfast talk on cholesterol
and its effect on the heart at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25.
The talk will take place in room 207 of the Student Union,
located on the southwest corner of Bell Avenue and Administration
Drive on TWU’s Denton campus. A heart-healthy breakfast
will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. For more

Dr. Ramaswamy completed
a residency in internal medicine at the University of Louisville
School of Medicine, as well as a cardiology fellowship at
the at the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis. She then spent one year of advanced training
at the Yale University School of Medicine, where she specialized
in advanced nuclear cardiology techniques and echocardiography.
Her research interests include the echocardiographic assessment
of patients with congestive heart failure, the use of nuclear
cardiology techniques to evaluate myocardial metabolism, and
the evaluation of diabetic patients with heart disease.
Cholesterol testing
will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in
room 207 of the Student Union. The testing, presented by Onsite
Health Diagnostics, will cost $14 for a lipid panel —
which includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides
— or $85 for a VAP test, which includes the preceding
as well as various cholesterol subclasses. An eight-hour fast
is required prior to either test.

Parking for both
events will be available in the visitor parking lot, located
north of the Student Union. Parking permits are available
at the Information Booth on Administration Drive.
