DENTON – Three Texas Woman’s
University nursing faculty recently received Susan and Robert
Doroghazi Faculty Excellence Awards in recognition for distinction
in teaching, research and service.
Carol Arnold, Ph.D.,
RN, assistant clinical professor of nursing at TWU’s
Dallas-Parkland Center, received the Excellence in Teaching
Award; Robin Britt, Ed.D., RN, WHNP, CNS, professor of nursing
at TWU’s Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center,
was recognized with the Excellence in Service Award; and Jan
Foster, Ph.D., RN, CNS, CCRN, assistant professor of nursing
in Houston, received the Excellence in Research Award.
The Susan and Robert
Doroghazi Faculty Excellence Awards were established by Dr.
and Mrs. Doroghazi in 2004 to honor TWU nursing faculty in
the areas of teaching, research and service. In addition to
the award recognition, each recipient also receives a $2,000
stipend. The awards are funded by an endowment established
by Dr. and Mrs. Doroghazi for the TWU College of Nursing.
Susan Cass Doroghazi,
MS, RN, FNP, earned both her bachelor’s and master’s
degrees in nursing at TWU and currently is a cardiology-cardiovascular
nurse at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo., and an adjunct
faculty member at Columbia College.
“I feel very
strongly that I received a superb nursing education from TWU,”
Mrs. Doroghazi said. “I wouldn’t have had the
opportunities I have had professionally if it weren’t
for the faculty at TWU. My husband and I are proud to have
established these awards to thank the TWU nursing faculty,
who helped me become successful in my career.”
Dr. Marcia Hern,
dean of the TWU College of Nursing, said, “We are grateful
that both Susan and Robert have chosen to honor our faculty
with these awards. I know I speak on behalf of all the nursing
faculty when I say their support is appreciated.”
Award recipients,
who had to meet a variety of criteria, were selected by the
TWU Nursing Faculty Affairs Committee.
Dr. Foster said,
“Being nominated by your peers is one of the greatest
rewards. The Doroghazis’ generosity and commitment to
this program of excellence in the TWU College of Nursing is
greatly appreciated by all faculty. My heartfelt thanks to
Susan and Robert Doroghazi and to the faculty who recommended
me for this award.”
Dr. Britt said,
“Since Susan was one of my baccalaureate students in
the nursing program in the early 1980’s, I am doubly
proud and honored to have been the recipient of the Susan
and Robert Doroghazi Faculty Excellence Award for Service.
I am humbled and yet so buoyed by this award, as it is such
a prestigious award in the College of Nursing at TWU, and
I feel it was given to me for something I dearly love to do
— serve TWU and the College of Nursing.”
Dr. Arnold said,
“I am honored and humbled to receive the award and with
it the opportunity to use part of the money to help American
Indians and Alaska Natives with a community prenatal education
project.”
With more than
12,000 alumni and more than 2,300 undergraduate and graduate
students in Denton, Dallas and Houston, TWU has the largest
college of nursing in Texas and produces more new nurses than
any other program in the state. For more information on the
