TWU organist schedules Oct. 10 recital
10/3/06
DENTON —
Dr. Thomas K. Brown, Texas Woman’s University professor
of music and university organist, will add a little something
extra to his next recital, giving the audience an up-close
look at his performance.
The recital, scheduled
for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, will be enhanced by the projection
of the four organ keyboards on a large screen. The concert
will take place in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located
at Pioneer Circle and Oakland Street on TWU’s Denton
campus. Admission is free. For more information, call (940)
898-2500.
Dr. Brown traditionally
performs compositions exhibiting a wide range of styles, time
periods and nationalities. “Although this program leans
heavily on German composers, there is great contrast in their
musical language,” he said. “I believe this may
be one of the most ‘audience friendly’ programs
I have played recently.”
The program also
will include “The Prelude and Fugue in D Major,”
often called the “Hallelujah Prelude,” by Franz
Schmidt and “Fantasia in G Minor” by Georg Telemann.
“I don’t
often play many organ transcriptions in my recitals, but they
seem to be very popular now,” Dr. Brown said. “‘Nimrod,’
from the Enigma Variations for orchestra by Edward
Elgar, is so beautiful that I decided to include it this year.”
