TWU to Host Workshop on Emotion Focused Therapy

DENTON — Dr. Wayne Denton, director of the Family Studies Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, will provide an introduction to Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples in a workshop scheduled Friday, April 29 at Texas Woman’s University.
The workshop, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., will take place in room 301 of TWU’s Administration Conference Tower, located on Administration Drive on TWU’s Denton campus. Registration until April 15 is $15 for TWU students, $25 for TWU faculty and $39 for the general public. Registration after April 15 is $49 for all participants. Workshop topics include the grounding of EFT in attachment theory, the nine steps of EFT, the three stages of EFT and an overview of research on EFT. TWU’s Office of Lifelong Learning will award three contact hours or .3 CEUs to each participant who successfully completes the workshop.
Dr. Denton, who also is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern, received training in emotion focused therapy for couples from EFT co-founder Susan M. Johnson, Ed.D. He has written and presented extensively in the area of medical family therapy in addition to writing and conducting research on EFT. He conducted the only randomized clinical trial of EFT in the United States, and currently is collaborating with Dr. Johnson in a clinical trial of EFT in the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder. ###
