Texas Woman’s University to host TCWSE workshop; Education
Commissioner Neeley among speakers

DENTON —
Shirley Neeley, Texas commissioner of education, is among
the speakers who will address the issues facing women in the
education field during the Texas Council of Women School Executives
Region XI Fall Conference, scheduled Friday, Sept. 30 at Texas
Woman’s University.
Registration for
the conference, titled “Leadership: A Bridge to Ourselves,”
begins at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Administration
and Conference Tower (ACT Building) on TWU’s Denton
campus. The conference will feature a special ceremony to
establish the TCWSE archives in the Woman’s Collection
of the TWU Library. Cost for the workshop is $35 through Friday,

Gov. Rick Perry
named Dr. Neeley as Texas commissioner of education in January
2004. As commissioner, Dr. Neeley serves as the head of the
Texas Education Agency, which oversees 1,037 school districts
and approximately 200 charter schools. Prior to her appointment,
Dr. Neeley served as superintendent of Galena Park Independent
School District, Texas’ largest exemplary district from
2002-04.
Additional conference
speakers include Nancy Vaughan, TCWSE president and assistant
superintendent of the Decatur ISD; and Margaret Montgomery,
the first TCWSE president.
Topics to be presented
include the daily balancing acts that women face; finding
networks for support; choosing the right job; interview preparation;
and keys to success.
The workshop is
designed for current and aspiring female school administrators.
The TWU Office of Lifelong Learning will award three contact
hours of credit to each participant who successfully completes
the workshop.
