General Orientation Information

  • Am I required to attend orientation?
  • What is Orientation?
    • Orientation is a way for the student and their families to get to know the campus prior to the first day of classes.  Orientation sessions provide valuable student services and academic information critical for success and a strong first semester. Orientation covers degree planning, academic concerns, student support programs, housing and food services, commuter information, and more. Students will also receive the course catalog, student handbook and other essential information guides.
  • Who can attend Transfer Orientation?
    • Any student that has been accepted to the University for the Fall 2014 semester that is transferred in 13 or more non dual credit hours and any guests that the student wishes to invite.
  • When is Orientation?
    • The Orientation dates will be released in Mid-February.
  • What do I need to do before I come to orientation?
    • You will need to register for orientation and logon to your pioneer portal and accept your payment terms and conditions and any other terms and conditions that may be applicable.
  • What do I need to bring?
    • Bacterial Meningitis vaccination record (Required in order to register for classes)
    • One original and two copies of transcripts from high school and any college or university
    • Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes
    • A sweater, as some of the meeting rooms may be cool
  • Where will I stay during Orientation?
    • Transfer Orientation is a one-day program; therefore it will be up to the student and/or their guests as to if you stay in Denton for the evening. Denton has many hotels throughout the town that would be more than happy to accommodate you and/or your guests.
  • Do my parents need to attend orientation with me?
    • We encourage parents and families to attend orientation with their student. For each orientation we provide a student and parent/family program that run concurrently with some sessions designed specifically for students and others for parents/families. At other times during the orientation you and your family will be together in sessions.
  • How will I know that I am registered for orientation?
    • Once you register online you will receive a confirmation email to your TWU email account.
  • Can I change the number of guests I am bringing after registering?
    • We can accommodate guest changes at any time, but you will be responsible to pay for the number of guests you bring with you that morning during check-in.

Orientation Program Information

  • What time does the Orientation Program begin?
    • For our Full-Day sessions check in will begin around 8:00 am
    • For our Evening session check in will begin around 4:00 pm. 
  • What time does the Orientation program end?
    • Orientation ends after you have completed the Registration process.
  • Do I need to see an advisor?
    • Yes we encourage all student to see an advisor.  If you are transferring in more than 29 credit hours, seeing an advisor is not required, but highly encouraged.
  • Where do I park?
    • You may park anywhere on campus during orientation as long as you do not have a TWU decal on your vehicle and you do not park in any Disability or State Vehicle parking spaces (both of these are marked with a white curb). For a map of campus please click here.
  • Can I stay overnight?
    • Transfer Orientation is a one-day program; therefore it will be up to you, the student and/or your guests as to if you stay in Denton for the evening. Denton has many hotels throughout the town that would be more than happy to accommodate you and/or your guests.
  • Can my guests stay overnight on campus?
    • TWU does not offer any guest housing. 

Orientation Payment Information

  • What is the fee to attend Orientation?
    • For our Transfer Students (Student's transferring in 13 or more credit hours) the fee is $30.00*.
    • The fee for guest is $20.00* per gues
      *All fees are subject to change at anytime. 
  • What does this fee include?
    • The fee includes but is not limited to, meals, program materials, and t-shirt.
  • How do I pay the Orientation fee?
    • Fees will be paid when registering for orientation or when you check into Orientation.
  • What is the cancellation policy?
    • All cancellations must be requested in writing two weeks prior to the date of orientation to the Center for Student Development in order to receive a refund totaling the amount you paid less a $10.00 administration charge.  Any requests received within two weeks of the date of Orientation or after the Orientation program has begun will not receive a refund.  Please note that if you wish to simply change your date, email TWU Orientation at orientation@twu.edu
