Welcome from the Chair
Our department is one of four academic departments in the college. We offer undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Interdisciplinary Studies with EC-4 or 4-8 Generalist Certification, EC-4 or 4-8 Generalist with Bilingual Certification, EC-4 or 4-8 Generalist with Special Education Certification, and 4-8 English Language Arts and Reading Certification. Other elementary, middle level, and secondary content area programs leading to certification are offered through the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health Studies .
We offer graduate academic programs leading to the Master’s degree (Master of Arts or Master of Education) in the areas of Educational Administration, Elementary Education with an emphasis in Bilingual Education, and Special Education. The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is offered in the areas of EC-4, and 4-8. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is offered in Special Education with areas of emphasis in Bilingual Education, Educational Administration, and Teacher Education. Other programs are offered for those seeking certification only as Principals, Superintendents, and Educational Diagnosticians.
Consistent with the mission of TWU, our programs focus on preparing educators who respect difference, celebrate diversity, and demonstrate the requisite skills, knowledge, and dispositions expected of a professional in fostering intellectually challenging student-centered learning environments.
