Department Scholarships

Del Barto Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Del Barto-Tramonte Foundation. Provides scholarships for students majoring in nursing, education and health studies.

Melvin E. Rust Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family of Melvin Rust, former Texas Woman’s University faculty member, established a permanent fund to support scholarship awards in his memory for students who are preparing to teach.

Natha Howell Endowed Scholarship

Established by Ms. Natha Elizabeth Howell to provide funds for the education and preparation of students in becoming teachers.

Grace Fewell Carothers Endowed Scholarship

Established by Mrs. Katherine Moore in memory of her sister, Grace Carothers, for students majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Clifton Tinsley Sparks Memorial Scholarship

Established by friends of the former College of Education dean. Recipients must be enrolled in the undergraduate teacher education program or be academically eligible for admission to undergraduate teacher education. Preference is given to students with financial need.

Alicia Travelle Memorial Scholarship

Established by John Travelle in memory of his wife. The scholarship is available to female students in the undergraduate program who are pursuing studies in elementary/bilingual education with a minimum 2.50 GPA.

Nina Scott Hulsey Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Established by Selette Hulsey Pearce, class of 1957, in memory of her mother, who graduated in 1929 from what then was known as the College of Industrial Arts. This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate student in elementary education who shows promise and needs financial aid.

Spencer L. Stoker Graduate Endowed Scholarship

Established by the estate of Dr. Stoker, this scholarship provides awards to graduate students in education. Dr. Stoker served the university as chairman of the Education Department for many years and is remembered as a dedicated and caring teacher and administrator.

Additional Assistance

The U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides funds to students who are completing or plan to complete coursework required to begin a career in teaching, and who agree to teach full time for at least four years.

Project PIONERAS is a $2.2 million scholarship and research project dedicated to enhancing the Spanish language competencies, content and pedagogical knowledge, and family engagement skills of eligible TWU undergraduate students in the Bilingual/ESL Education program.
