Since his resettlement in Texas at the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, Dr. Phap Dam has taught at San Antonio College, Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio, East Texas State University, and the University of Texas at Dallas. While living in San Antonio, he also served as an educational consultant for the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA). And prior to his joining the Texas Woman’s University faculty, he was in charge of ESL and world language education for the Dallas Independent School District from 1981 to 1998.

Dr. Dam also had a distinguished academic career in South Vietnam. From 1965 to 1975, he taught English and linguistics at the University of Saigon. In 1968, he became the director of this university’s Institute of Languages.

As a scholar, Dr. Dam has published books and peer-reviewed articles on language pedagogy and comparative linguistics in both English and Vietnamese. He has also translated Spanish, French, German, Italian, and English poetry into Vietnamese for leading Vietnamese literary journals. And as a compelling public speaker, Dr. Dam has presented at numerous state, national, and international conferences on language education.
