Dr. Claudia Sanchez joined Texas Woman’s University in 2003. Prior to this, she pursued graduate studies while serving as instructor of graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of bilingual education and English as a Second Language (ESL) at Texas A&M – College Station. Earlier in her career, she taught university-level courses in Spanish, English, and French in Mexico and also served as coordinator of K-12 bilingual programs.
Dr. Sanchez’s research interests include parental involvement in K-12 education, bilingual/ESL teacher preparation and professional development, grant writing, and ESL teaching methodologies. As a grant writer, Dr. Sanchez has secured federal funding for TWU in the amount of over $4 million dollars since 2004. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, these projects are partnerships with urban school districts in Texas and focus on teacher preparation in the areas of bilingual/ESL education, mathematics, and special education as well professional development for bilingual/ESL in-service teachers.
Dr. Sanchez is a member of the editorial board of the TESOL Journal and a council member of the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA). She is also a frequent presenter at the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) association, and the American Psychological Association (APA).
