Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

Purpose: To promote students majoring in math, science and engineering; to encourage careers in STEM fields

Eligibility:

  • US Citizen, US Nationals or permanent residents
  • College Juniors
  • College Seniors
  • Science, math, technology majors
  • Min. B average

Number Nominated: 4/Institution; 300 awards/year

Harry S. Truman Scholarship

Purpose: To find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and

To provide them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.

Scholars selected from 2005 on are required to work in public service for three of the seven years following completion of a Foundation funded graduate degree program as a condition

Eligibility:

  • US citizen or US national
  • Undergraduate level students with Junior or higher standing, enrolled full-time, with extensive records of public and community service, who are committed to careers in government or elsewhere in public service, and have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills

Number Nominated: 4/institution; May nominate 3/institution more if student attended community college for at least one year

Other Requirements:

  • Must have faculty representative
  • Requires on-campus committee interview
  • Requires regional/national interview

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship

Purpose: Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for one academic year of study in another country. This award is intended to help cover round-trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies up to $25,000 [US] or its equivalent 

Eligibility:

  • Citizens of a country w/ a Rotary club
  • Undergraduate students (minimally Juniors)
  • Graduate students
  • May not be/be related to a Rotarian
  • Some language proficiency may be required

Number Nominated: Unlimited; 800 awarded each year

Other Requirements:

Deadline: Depend on each “home town” Rotary organization


Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Purpose: International Positions:

  • English Teaching Assistant positions
  • University coursework
  • Independent library or field research
  • Conservatory or art school classes
  • Special projects in the social or life sciences, or a combination

Eligibility:

  • US Citizens
  • In good health
  • Have not lived in other country for more than 6 months
  • College senior
  • B.S./B.A. graduates, Masters and Doctoral candidates
  • Some language proficiency may be required

Number Nominated: Unlimited; All applicants are sent forward with Committee rating, even those non-recommended. Over 500 awarded/year

Other Requirements: Must have faculty representative; requires on-campus committee interview

Deadline: September 1

Gilman

Purpose: To diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards to U.S. undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints.

Eligibility: U.S. citizen undergraduates who are receiving a Federal Pell Grant at a two-year or four-year college or university.

Number Nominated: Unlimited

Other Requirements: Accepted into a study abroad program at time of award; studying or interning abroad for at least 4 weeks in one country; not applicable for study/intern in Cuba or any country on U.S. Dept. of State Travel Warning List.
