Newcomers to the Undergraduate Nursing Program will participate in the General Orientation at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning, January 13th in Lecture Hall 2120 on the second floor. These same Undergraduate Nursing Students will be involved in a Nursing-Specific Orientation with Dr. Ayers a good half of the day on Thursday, January 12th. Undergraduate Nursing Students will be expected to attend BOTH sessions.
Sessions on Friday will cover such areas as parking and transportation within TMC, health-related resources, registering for classes and financial aid possibilities. Groups will be created after the two hours, and the Orientation will continue to unfold, addressing such hands-on necessities like: setting up your Pioneer Portal account, becoming familiar with Blackboard, obtaining an ID Badge, going on a campus tour, becoming acquainted with Internet-based medical resources, and an orientation to the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library. Laced throughout the day will be introductions to several services provided by the Counseling Center, Cashier, Security (Department of Public Safety - DPS), Student Life; and opportunities possible through Campus Ministries, Student Government, and other registered student organizations. Although similar in structure to the Graduate Orientation, parts of this day will be tailored specifically to suit the needs of these new nursing students entering the undergraduate program. This will range from a different focus in the library related sessions to Career Services. Following all the Orientation Sessions, there will be an optional tour of the Texas Medical Center offered for newcomers interested in learning more about this "city within a city". Student leaders from the College of Nursing will be conducting the tour.
