Mission
The mission of Student Health Services is to deliver quality health care and effective service that meets the physical, psychological, cognitive, and interpersonal needs of our students. We respect individual autonomy and safeguard the privacy of our patients. Our ethical principals and guidelines are closely aligned with our professional organization, the American College Health Association. We use American College Health guidelines and standards in our daily operations and planning decisions.
Eligibility
Eligibility for services is based upon payment of a medical services fee. Any student who is enrolled in at least one credit hour of face-to-face classes pays a medical services fee and is eligible to receive services at the clinic. Students who are enrolled in all distance education classes are not eligible for services.
Immunizations are offered prior to the start of each semester for new students accepted into one of the Health Science programs. Proof of acceptance, such as an acceptance letter, is required to receive immunizations.
Eligibility
All TWU students enrolled in at least 1 hour of face-to-face classes pay a Medical Services Fee (MSF) of $39 each semester. The Medical Services Fee funds the Student Health Services which provides a variety of services to students on all campuses.
Although the Student Health Services clinic is located on the Denton campus, it is available for use by fee paying students from all campuses.
Students who pay a MSF are also eligible to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan. Student Health Services administers and manages this insurance program for students.
Immunization services provided by Student Health Services are also funded by the MSF. The Immunization program verifies the immunization compliancy of health care majors on all campuses.
Student Health Services is also funded in part by fees charged for services, like office visits, lab, and pharmacy. The $43 MSF is a relatively low fee as compared with other Universities, some of which do not charge students for certain services, such as office visits. Students who use TWU SHS pay fees for services provided. By charging fees to students who use the clinical services, Student Health Services is able to keep its MSF lower than other Universities.
The medical services fee amount is subject to change each academic year.
