About TWU
Texas
Woman's University is a public university, primarily for women,
offering baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degree programs.
A teaching and research institution, the University emphasizes
the liberal arts and sciences and specialized or professional studies.
TWU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur,
Georgia 30033-4097, 404-679-4501) to award bachelor's, master's
and doctoral degrees. The University holds the Carnegie Classification
of a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University. Established in 1901
by an act of the 27th Legislature as the Girls Industrial College,
the institution began classes in 1903.
