Undergraduate Degree Programs in Music
Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy The music therapy program, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, is the oldest ongoing program in Texas and one of the oldest in the country. A music therapy concentration includes clinical experience, research studies, and a core of basic music and psychology courses.
Bachelor of Arts in Music (Teacher Certification) Texas Woman's University has built a reputation upon training early childhood, elementary, and general music teachers, and junior and senior high directors. Students with a bachelor's degree seeking certification may choose certification only, a masters degree in music with certification, or a masters degree in teaching. Successful music education graduates of the University are eligible to receive an All-Level Certificate, allowing them to teach Vocal or Instrumental grades K-12.
Bachelor of Arts in Music (Performance) The performance program prepares students for careers in performance and studio teaching. Private lessons are taught by professionals who are active performers, master teachers, clinicians and adjudicators. The undergraduate performance major is available in
clarinet, flute, organ, piano, and voice.
Bachelor of Arts in Music This degree attracts students wishing a broadly based liberal arts approach rather than a performance approach to music. It includes languages as well as broadly defined liberal arts courses.

Graduate Degree Programs in Music
Master of Arts in Music with emphasis in Music Pedagogy A graduate degree with an emphasis in Music Pedagogy for vocalists, pianists,
clarinetists, and flutists who are interested in refining their knowledge and skills for effective studio teaching in private or university settings. The curriculum focuses on instrumental techniques, teaching strategies, literature, and the student's own performance skills.
Master of Arts in Music with emphasis in Music Performance This program prepares
clarinetists, flutists, pianists and vocalists for careers as soloists, private studio teachers, orchestra performers, piano accompanists, and performers in opera. Private lessons are taught by professionals who are active performers, master teachers, clinicians, and adjudicators.
Master of Arts in Music with emphasis in Music Therapy TWU provides the only graduate music therapy degree program and the MA degree, within Texas public universities. We offer programs leading to the Master of Arts degree with Music Therapy certification. A dual degree, MS in Counseling and an MA in Music with an emphasis in Music Therapy, is also offered.
Master of Arts in Music with emphasis in Music Education A compehensive graduate degree with an emphasis in music education is provided for those who wish to broaden their knowledge of music education, explore areas of research in music education, and refine their music education techniques. This degree program allows many opportunities for electives for those music educators desiring that flexibility. |
