Ensemble Opportunities at TWU
All ensembles are open to any student at TWU with permission of the director. If you have experience as a
singer or instrumentalist, we have a place for you to participate, whether you are a music major, or not!
Concert Choir
A select, auditioned choir singing music written for women's voices drawn from the major periods of music. The TWU Concert Choir has a long history of performances of choral masterworks, and has sung at the Meyerson Symphony Center (Dallas) and
at New York's Carnegie Hall. Participation is open by audition to all students, regardless of major.
Wind Ensemble
A select ensemble of wind and percussion instrumentalists performing a broad and diverse range of literature. Participation is open by audition to all students, regardless of major.
Opera Ensemble
An ensemble specializing in the performance of operatic literature. This ensemble presents
scenes and/or productions each year, with a focus on Italian, French, German and America operas, and occasionally musical theater. Participation is open by audition to all students, regardless of major.
String Ensemble
The string ensemble performs both chamber music and orchestral literature for strings. Participation is open
by audition to all students, regardless of major.
Flute Choir
The award-winning TWU Flute Choir, founded by Dr. Pamela Youngblood in 1994, performs a varied repertoire of original compositions and transcriptions ranging from Bach to jazz. The Choir includes all the instruments of the flute family including piccolos, alto flutes and bass flutes. The group has performed at the TMEA Convention and the National Flute Association Convention. In addition to formal concerts, the group performs throughout the year for campus, civic and community events. Participation is open to flutists by audition, regardless of major.
Chamber Singers
A select mixed ensemble singing music written for men's and women's voices, drawn from the major periods of music. The
Chamber Singers perform on campus, at area schools and within the community. Participation is open by audition to all students, regardless of major.
Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble provides the opportunity for students to participate
in quality jazz combos. Each semester will survey music from the
beginning of jazz to the modern era. These experiences are
utilized in the areas of therapy, education and performance. In
the area of music therapy, students can make use of improvisation,
learning tunes and jazz styles to prepare them for practical
applications. By participating in the jazz ensemble, the student
who aspires to become a professional player will perform in a
professional atmosphere with professional responsibilities.
Likewise, the student who has aspirations of becoming a music educator
will have the opportunity to work with jazz faculty members whose
teaching strategies can be of assistance to the future music educator.
Guitar Ensemble
A select ensemble playing literature drawn from the major periods of music. The guitar ensemble often performs with other instruments, and has concerts both on campus and in the community. Participation is open by audition to all students regardless of major.
