HEADLINES FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF DANCE
Congratulations to MFA candidate in Dance, José Zamora on receiving a 2008-09 Jacob K. Javits Fellowship. Mr. Zamora is one of only 30 university students in the United States, and one of two in Texas, to receive the fellowship, which covers tuition and fees and provides up to $30,000 a year for living expenses. The TWU Department of Dance welcomes John Dixon as our visiting professor for the Spring semester, 2009.
Mark Dendy recently competed a residency at the Department of Dance, setting a work on TWU dance students to premier at the American Dance Festival in June 2009.
Lela Jones was in residence March 2-6 for a workshop with TWU dance students: Unearthing Cultural Narratives and Soma Stories.
Joshua Bisset and Laura Quattrochi of the SHUA Group will be in residence April 3-9 to create a work for the Arts Triangle, exploring the spaces where arts happens at TWU, on April 9th at 5p.m.
José Zamora and thirteen TWU dance students will travel to Puebla, Mexico to perform his choreography in the international dance festival, Performatica, from April 20-24, 2009.
Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People will be in residence for Maymester, May 18-30, 2009.
MFA Candidates Shelley Padilla and Nicole Touzien will present their research in May at the 2009 World Dance Alliance General Assembly to be held in Madison, Wisconsin. Shelley will present "Anatomical and Somatic Approaches to Ballet: Attunement to Individual Difference" and Nicole "Shifting Perspectives: Creating Site-Adaptive Dance as a Means to Artistic and Collective Accessibility and Sustainability."
