UPDATE FROM THE
SPEAKER
Speaker of the Faculty Senate
Monthly Report
JANUARY 10, 2008I
Since the first of the academic year, the
TWU Faculty Senate has been engaged in numerous activities to
give faculty members more beneficial information.
Monthly E-Newletter
We thank the Faculty Senate Secretary,
Dr. Kathryn Tart, for her excellent e-letter sent to faculty
members monthly as an update on Faculty Senate projects in
process and topics addressed at regular Faculty Senate meetings.
Faculty Salary Data
This month we add important information
to the Faculty Senate web site. With the aid of Dr. Carolyn
Gunning and Mary Ann McDuff alongside the efforts of Dr. Linda
Ladd, co-chair of the Faculty Senate Budget Committee, the
Faculty Senate is making available one-year’s CUPA data. Per the
CUPA-HR web site,
CUPA-HR performs “a national
salary survey for participating institutions for full-time
faculty at private and public institutions nationwide by
discipline and rank. Starting with the 2003-04 survey,
institutions can report salaries by rank in any of 332
four-digit CIP codes defined by the U.S. Department of
Education. The survey collects both institution-specific and
discipline-specific data.”
This data provides information on average
faculty salaries by discipline for the specific group of
colleges and universities that are shown at the end of the
report. These numbers are used as benchmarks by TWU
administration, serving as the figures to which TWU salaries are
compared for compatibility with market. It is important to note
that the CUPA data are from a previous year, and that the market
comparison used to raise TWU faculty salaries to the 95% of
benchmark figure was done prior to the year for which these CUPA
data are presented. We thank Dr. Gunning, Mary Ann McDuff, and
Dr. Ladd for their work in providing this data to the TWU
faculty.
Please contact your senators
for more information on any of the above items.
