BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS STANDARD

Any person who handles blood or certain other body fluids on the job, or whose job responsibilities include activities that might expose them to such body fluids is required to receive training and understand the potential hazards of such exposure. This training is provided by EHS and the Student Health Services and is to be provided before initial exposure on the job, when job tasks or exposure changes, and at least annually. This training session covers an explanation of the Standard, epidemiology and transmission of bloodborne pathogens, appropriate work practices and measures to control exposure, offer of hepatitis B vaccination, and the signs and labels used to indicate potentially infectious materials.

Who Should Train?
Mandatory annual training for all employees, who are first responders to injury and/or illness incidents; investigators in laboratories working with or exposed to blood or other bodily fluids, blood components, or any unfixed human tissue ; and other employees whose job responsibilities include activities that might expose them to such materials.
