Student Creative Arts and Research Symposium
INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS
April 22-23,
2008
|
This year the virtual components of the
TWU Student Research and Creative Arts Symposium will be
held on TWU's Second Life island.
Presenters will find support available on the island and
in their presenter packet.
For any questions or support you may contact the TWU
Helpdesk (helpdesk@twu.edu)
or Catherine Dutton (SL: Catherine Soderstrom, e-mail: (cdutton@twu.edu).
Accessing the TWU Second Life Island
Upon acceptance, presenters will need to send an e-mail
to
cdutton@twu.edu or IM Catherine Soderstrom with both
your real life and Second Life names. State that you are
a presenter at the TWU Symposium. Within 48 hours you
will receive an invitation in Second Life to join the
TWU-ISS group in Second Life and a landmark to the TWU
island.
Preparing Your Presentation for Second Life
You will need the following things for your virtual
presentation:
1) A PowerPoint-based presentation (5 slides maximum)
2) A handout consisting of a text-only write-up of
your presentation (1,000 word maximum) with all
applicable references listed at the end
3) A personalized avatar
Part 1- The PowerPoint
The recommended method for new presenters to Second Life
is to begin with a PowerPoint presentation.
Tips to ensure a better presentation:
Use text no smaller than 24 point font.
Use a clear, easy to read font, such as Arial or Verdana
Graphics and images are easier to view and read than a
slide full of text.
Use high contrasting colors.
Proofread, proofread, proofread!
After you create your PowerPoint, e-mail Catherine
Dutton (cdutton@twu.edu)
to arrange uploading of your PowerPoint to Second Life
before 5:00pm, April 14, 2008. The images for your
presentation will be sent to your avatar preloaded into
a presentation board.
Part 2- The Handout
Prepare all information that you wish to have in your
handout including contact information with both your
real and Second Life names. Be sure to include
references on the card. Information on a notecard in
Second Life cannot be formatted (no bold, italic, font
size, etc) so spacing and *text emphasis* are important
elements.
All handout information should be sent to
cdutton@twu.edu in order to be prepared as a
notecard and setup for distribution to symposium
attendees. The handout should be sent with your
PowerPoint before 5:00pm, April 14, 2008.
Part 3- Personalizing your Avatar
You will find on the TWU island a "bookstore" with
clothing, hair, shoes and TWU t-shirts that you can use
to personalize your avatar.
